Adam Bridgland is at Jealous North for his solo show 'Small Tom, Middle Tom, Floor Tom, Crash'

Adam Bridgland is an interdisciplinary artist, whose signature style can be defined as vibrant, playful and heartfelt. Defining features of his artworks include hand-finished text, in various mediums such as enamel, acrylic and crayon over colour saturated backgrounds. For this exhibition, the inspiration was taken from a visit to his family home following his mum’s passing and explores themes such as loss and nostalgia through imagery and colour.

This new exhibition explores themes of loss, nostalgia, and optimism using various mediums such as enamel, acrylic, and crayon work over unique postcards and original found images. Following his mum’s passing, Adam visited his family home and unearthed a box of old memorabilia from his childhood. The mementoes became the inspiration for the exhibition and led him to produce incredible work for this new show. The new pieces are an ode to his past self which contrast seamlessly with his present self.

The artworks in this exhibition, with their heartfelt sentiments overlaid, demonstrate a different side to Adam that has not yet been seen in his previous exhibitions; his passion for music and songwriting from his earlier years in bands, as well as his role as a father. Adam and his youngest son Cass have collaborated in this exhibition and created a series of 9 monoprints.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2006, Adam Bridgland has used a diverse range of materials and working methods to pursue an incisive and often witty exploration of distinctively British sentiments, externalising the underlying sense of loss and nostalgia that permeates our memories.
