This October, we are excited to present Charming Baker’s solo show, ‘Disorder of The Day’.
Celebrating their long standing professional relationship, Gallery Director Dario Illari and Jealous artist Charming Baker have curated a selection of never-before-seen originals alongside a handful of prints from sought-after editions.
This show seeks to highlight Baker’s signature raw style and champion his skills as a draughtsman and painter alike. A selective display of larger works, this exhibition invites visitors to take an in-depth look at the artist’s honed techniques.
‘Disorder of The Day’ will run from 23rd October – 13th November at Jealous, 53 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3PT.
“I was with Mr Baker a couple of weeks ago when he came to our Tottenham space to sign and dedicate some editions for a collector.
Whilst chatting and deliberating whether we should go for a drink or 2 after signing I asked if it would be okay for Jealous to show one of his original paintings at the new IMPRINT art fair. (It’s on next week by the way)
Mr Baker said 'of course' which was very surprising as he can sometimes be hesitant shall we say in allowing his works to be shown. (Please read as ‘pain in the arse').
However, on this rare occasion he was for up it and so I thought it in for a penny in for a pound.
‘We have about five of these newer paintings of yours which haven’t really seen the light of day yet, and sadly I only have space for one at the Fair, but I’d love to show them all (Pause)…What about we could do an impromptu show at Jealous with the 4 remaining ones, what d’you think?’
After a very long pause Mr Baker replied
‘…makes sense (pause)…I don’t want a private view though’
I smiled and added ’no PV...Thank you’.
He looked at me and said ‘I know what you’re doing…Let's get pissed’
…and we did.
