NINA BONNICI

Jealous is pleased to present Nina Bonnici’s upcoming exhibition ‘Ripe Until We’re Rotten’. A highly skilled painter, her background is in assisting well-known artists with the studio production of their works. Bonnici produces original artworks that draw inspiration from classic European Masters, with a style that is distinctly recognisable.

In Nina Bonnici’s first solo exhibition, ‘Ripe Until We’re Rotten’, she weaves a meandering path through her strange and seemingly unconnected interests and obsessions, from cartoons, car boot sales and 90’s R&B, to European Master Paintings and Americana. The unifying themes that arise from the often unconventional subject matter are ones of lust, femininity, desperation, sexuality, beauty and pain. Collectively the themed paintings work as a pseudo self-portrait, and shine with a Northern humour at the absurdity of the human condition.

Alongside twelve original paintings on display at the exhibition, we will also be releasing two print editions published with Jealous

'Ripe Until We’re Rotten’ is an adapted line from the Canterbury Tales (‘Til we be roten, kan we nat be rype’). It strikes me that if being bad is somehow an inevitable part of being human, we need to revel in the good for as long as it lasts. We’re at our sweetest just before we go off.
