ALLY MCINTYRE

From Canada to Shoreditch, Ally McIntyre’s solo exhibition '(re)Kindling', featured five original works, never seen before on the UK art scene.

Jealous was proud to play host to Ally McIntyre’s solo exhibition ‘(re) Kindling’. Drawing on the recent summer wildfires in her home of Canada, McIntyre explores tentative connections between environmental unrest and the domesticated animal, a reimagining of the forces at play between wildlife and the earth.

Ally McIntyre’s process is intuitive and thoughtful, often layering acrylic, spray paint, and loose drawing with bold moments of precision, until the image emerges through time. Every brush stroke excitedly anticipates the colours that follow. Her interest has always laid primarily in exploring how animals can occupy man-made worlds within her paintings as protagonists and this exhibition is no different; inviting the audience to enter a world previously unseen, one that is a homage to her family home.

The exhibition featured McIntyre’s larger-than-life original paintings as they quietly captivate and take hold of the space. The audience also had the opportunity to see both paintings that inspired the ‘Dance In Barvnok’ and ‘So Far Away’ print editions released for the Jealous Summer Show earlier this June.

‘(re)Kindling’ will run until 4th October at Jealous.

“Living under smoke-filled skies, where the sun turns orange and we’re advised not to go outside, became the emotional and environmental backdrop to this series”.

"I have tremendous respect for Jealous. They’ve been such a formative part of my journey, without them, I wouldn’t be the artist I am today. Their support opened doors and gave my work a reach I never could have imagined. Coming back feels like returning to the place that first believed in me."

Ally McIntyre (b. 1991) skilfully blends various painting techniques, creating a distinct fusion of formal elements through the use of figuration, symbolism, abstract expressionism and graffiti. Through this medium, she delves into cultural perceptions of human/animal relationships, the canon, and the natural world.
