ALMA SINGER
This September, Jealous is thrilled to welcome back Alma Singer! Following on from the artist’s solo exhibition in 2024, ‘Not Big or Clever’, the artist embarks on an exploration of the human condition through her signature naïve style drawings paired with tongue-in-cheek figures and phrases.
Singer narrates her thoughts around ageing and authenticity in a world full of unrealistic expectations through eye-catching, thought-provoking and humorous mixed media works which will appeal to visitors of all ages.
With over 50 original works on display, interactive installations and a video piece to discover, this is Alma Singer how you’ve never seen her before…
Join us for the opening night of Thursday 10th September 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
“Turning 40 was kind of a big deal, but not in the ways you might think. I wasn’t worried about getting older, or mid-life, or looking my age, or any of that shit. What was a big deal was realising that I’m becoming someone else, and maybe that someone else is closer to the person I really am. Like many other women, I spent much of my life trying to be what others wanted me to be, trying and often failing to live up to the standards and expectations of society, friends, strangers, family and partners. The pressure to be a certain way meant I didn’t really know who I was or even what I really liked. It also led me to feel uncomfortable about my body and self-image. Well, I’m 40 now, and fuck all that shit. This show is about leaving behind the old version of myself and embracing a more authentic one. The authentic me likes boxing and riding a motorbike and dancing naked around a fire and making silly art. Come celebrate being ourselves, whatever that looks like, at my opening on September 10th at Jealous Gallery.” - Alma Singer, 2026
