After a succssful opening at Jealous east, Berlin based British artist Lee Wagstaff solo show 'Information Overlord' comes to Jealous North.
The show presents a new series of geometric and optical paintings that are his response to the endless assault of imagery presented to us in this digital age.
This October sees Jealous North hosting the bold and intricate works by Berlin based British artist Lee Wagstaff in his solo exhibition titled ‘Information Overlord’. The visually impactful works presented blur the lines between abstraction and figuration, stylising between optical illusion and geometrical, the works are inspired by an endless assault of imagery presented to us in this digital age.
Wagstaff starts by using pattern generating algorithms to fragment and manipulate his source material, drawn from nature, art history, popular culture and pornography. By intentionally reducing or obfuscating images, all that is left in the final painting is an essence of an image that the brain is forced to try and make whole again. At the same time the viewer is overstimulated and misdirected by staccato like movements within the monotone geometric patterns.
After a hugely popular launch at Jealous East, in Shoreditch, Jealous are delighted to welcome Lee Wagstaff to Jealous North in Crouch End for the first time, join us to celebrate this incredibly impactful debut exhibition.
