MA Central St. Martins Tyler studied MA Fine Art at Central St Martins, he previously completed a BA in Fine Art at Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada, and has completed two summer residencies at the School of Visual Arts, New York and the Cooper Union School of Art, New York. He has shown widely in London, exhibitions include Life is Elsewhere at the Crypt Gallery, and New Pretenders at the Bargehouse, and also in Toronto and New York. Tyler’s print for the Jealous residency is a 5 colour screenprint on Somerset Paper. It uses the four colour separations used in commercial printing (CMYK) to echo the low-fi qualities of cheaply printed newspaper and ephemera. The net pattern of prisms relates to his sculptural “Shades” series, in which faded and defunct imagery is cut, folded and mounted as a sculptural object, alongside scrawled text and crude shapes. The work creates an impression of fragments, a dysfunctional collection of text and image in which newly valued forms are created from the worthless and incidental. Tyler’s Jealous Prize print edition is now held in the Victoria & Albert Museum Permanent Print Collection.
