Californian artist Lydia Boehm completed her BA in Painting at Oberlin College on 2013 before relocating to study MA Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2016 in London, where she currently lives and works. Her large-scale paintings are full of raw emotion and energy, often appearing as abstracted mark-making. Upon closer inspection her sweeping gestural marks come into focus and portray the raw energy of nature or everyday scenes, an attempt to understand and make sense of the complexities of her own personal emotional experiences. Her colour palette is inspired by her hometown in California; the vivid orange of a sunset or deep blues of the sea are prevalent throughout her works. She has been awarded The Jealous Prize in 2018, the John Frederick Oberlin Merit Scholarship and a Finalist in the Hine Painting Prize, as well as exhibiting extensively in London and New York.
