Born in London in 1991, Josie Appleby first studied fashion design at Instituto Marangoni, interning at Alexander McQueen. She went on study Equine Sports Science at University of Essex. Animals and abstract painting initially became her chosen subject matter. Her first solo show ‘Extinct Instinct’ at The Underdog Art Galley in London Bridge and marked the start of her career in 2015. Her paintings were greatly received by the equestrian community and collectors, exhibiting with Collier & Dobson at the worlds most prestigious equine events. As a self-taught painter, her style has developed and grown. Her work entwines her experiences and memories from travelling the world and motherhood.
More recently two of her drawings were selected by Hurvin Anderson for this years RA Summer Exhibition 2024 and The Gallery at Green & Stone Summer Exhibition 2024. Josie has also gained a place to study on the Turps Correspondence course from September.
