This June, we transformed St Michael’s Church in Shoreditch into a vibrant hub of creativity, community and chaos for a two-day event like no other!
Located on Leonard Street EC2, this Grade I listed Church provided a unique and atmospheric backdrop for the inaugural Jealous Summer Show, giving visitors a rare opportunity to experience contemporary art within a historic architectural setting curated and presented in our unique and playful style.
Visitors viewed new and unseen works from the likes of Helen Beard, David Shrigley, Sue Arrowsmith, Jake Chapman, Blur X Tony Hung, Jamie Hewlett, Ben Kelly, Miss Bugs, Harry Hill, Charming Baker, Opake, Yinka Shonibare, Antony Micallef, Noel Fielding, Michael Craig-Martin, Ian Davenport and Lakwena, to name but a few.
Beyond the art, this show reinforced our long-standing commitment to community action. Jealous is proud to support The Big Issue, and the Tottenham and Hornsey Food Banks, for whom Jealous has served as a donation drop-off point for over five years. With this in mind, FREE entry was given to all visitors bringing non-perishable food items to the event to help those most in need.
And as a special treat we have decided, for the first time ever, to make all 16 prints from The Help Portfolio available to purchase individually. Co-published by Director of Cristea Roberts Gallery, David Cleaton-Roberts, Sue Arrowsmith, collector Christian Mathews and Jealous in 2020, this artwork has so far raised over £300K for the 16 charities chosen by each of the participating artists.
“We’re not interested in a ‘white cube’ experience, we want people to connect with art in unexpected ways. St Michael’s is a magical venue, and this summer we’ll be packing it with everything people love about Jealous: amazing artists, limited edition releases, and a sense of mischief and meaning.
From punk-influenced prints to socially conscious statements, the works on show will span the humorous, the political, the bold, and the beautiful. In classic Jealous style, nothing will be too precious, and all art will be for sale, accessible, and in many cases, very affordable.
And yes, there will be a bar.
Be nice to see you there!” – Dario Illari, Director of Jealous
Show Dates: Saturday 14th June 11am-6pm
Address: St Michael’s Church, 74–76 Leonard St, Shoreditch, London EC2A 4QS
