Group Exhibition

Jealous North

02 Mar 2022 — 27 Mar 2022

This exhibition aims to highlight seminal works from the past 50 years which have become landmarks in political art.

After a wildly popular showing at our Shoreditch Gallery, Jealous North is proud to present ‘Beauty Is In The Street’, an exhibition that explores the importance of art as a tool for protest and social movement.
The exhibition will transport us to Paris, May 1968, where 8 million protestors took the streets to express their discontent and call for a political and social change. Art became the voice that called for that change, giving way to a new cultural movement and a militant graphic art supported by the production of more than 200 original posters. We have the honour of exhibiting a selection of these original posters created by students of the École des Beaux-Arts, they will be accompanied by the celebratory portfolio co-published by Jealous and Gerrish Fine Arts for the 50th anniversary of the riots.
Politically fused art has developed throughout the contemporary art landscape, and many artists continue to use powerful imagery to protest, defy and question the society we live in. Flyingleaps’, a collective that commissions artworks in response to contemporary politics, will be showcasing works from artists including; Jeremy Deller, Mark Wallinger and Robert Montgomery. Politically driven graffiti artist Russell Shaw Higgs's series of ‘Pedestrian’ screenprints will accompany Stanley Donwood’s latest edition with Jealous, ‘Thief’, demonstrating the ever-present anti-establishmentarianism of their work.
‘Beauty Is In The Streets’ will run from 2nd – 27th March 2022 at Jealous North, 27 Park Road N8 8TE.
