GHOSTS

Charming Baker, Juliet Gibbs and Felix Fried

Jealous North

02 Nov 2022 — 27 Nov 2022

Expect to see large monoprints by Charming Baker, botanical paintings by Juliet Gibbs and intricately modelled mobile sculptures by Felix Fried.

Jealous North is proud to present ‘Ghosts’, an exhibition that showcases three artists, in which each has created works in different mediums, giving a clear distinction between their practices and making for an eye-catching display.
Juliet Gibbs' paintings focus on the distinction between the organic and the man-made. Gibbs' work seeks to explore the direct impact humanity poses to the world we live in, and how nature inevitably fights back. Tropical greenery clings to moisture and heat, growing in curated environments. An artificial wilderness that envelopes steel girders and concrete foundations instead of its motherland - the dense jungle.
Charming Baker’s monoprints display a sense of inherent vulnerability and danger, a phantasmagorical feeling that pervades his work. Baker explores well-trodden and intrinsically linked themes; life, love, death, terror, joy, and despair… with an underlying reference to the classics and dark humour.
Felix Fried’s work can be described as problem-solving with aesthetic and artistic sympathies. Steal pieces that balance on each other, resting on the thinnest possible points: pieces than would seem so fragile, yet become stable and firm within the space.
